Blue Valley Recreation Commission
Company Overview
Blue Valley Recreation (BVRC) is the largest recreation commission in the state of Kansas. Located in southern Johnson County (Kansas City metropolitan area), BVRC serves approximately 105,000 patrons.
BVRC employs 52 regular employees and approximately 600 seasonal employees throughout the year.
BVRC is primarily a youth-serving agency that offers hundreds of youth and adult programs; classes and activities include swimming, gymnastics, visual and performing arts, individual and team sports and more. Facilities for these activities include the Recreation Complex at 137th and Antioch, the Activity Center at 6545 W. 151st Street, and various school district facilities.
Company History
Blue Valley Recreation Commission was established in 1986 by a vote of the public. The Commission celebrated it's 20th anniversary last year with a free, community-wide celebration.

Benefits
MEDICAL INSURANCE
Single coverage health insurance is paid for by the BVRC for regular employees who are routinely scheduled to work a minimum of 20 hours per week. The effective date for medical insurance is the first day of the month following thirty (30) days of employment.
After five (5) years of service, if the regular employee’s family is currently on the family plan, dependent coverage will be paid as follows:
•Regular, full-time employee - dependent coverage will be paid by the BVRC.
•Regular, part-time employee - dependent coverage will be paid by the BVRC, pro-rated, according the employee’s regularly scheduled workweek.
VISION INSURANCE
Single coverage vision insurance is paid for by the BVRC for regular employees who are routinely scheduled to work twenty (20) hours per week or more.
After five (5) years of service, if the employee’s family is currently on the family plan, dependent coverage will be paid as follows:
•Regular, full-time employee – dependent coverage will be paid by the BVRC.
•Regular, part-time employee – dependent coverage will be paid by the BVRC, pro-rated, based on the employee’s regularly scheduled workweek.
DENTAL INSURANCE
Single coverage dental insurance is paid for by the BVRC at a rate of fifty percent (50%) for regular employees who are routinely scheduled to work 20 hours per week or more. The effective date of dental insurance is the first day of the month following thirty (30) days of employment.
After five (5) years of service, if the employee’s family is currently on the family plan, dependent coverage will be paid as follows:
•Regular, full-time employee – dependent coverage will be paid by the BVRC at 50%.
•Regular, part-time employee – dependent coverage will be paid by the BVRC at 50%, pro-rated, based on the employee’s regularly scheduled workweek.
DEFERRED COMPENSATION
The BVRC sponsors two retirement savings plan: the BVRC 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan and the BVRC Matching Contribution Plan.
An employee may be eligible for the 457(b) Plan immediately following his/her date of hire, provided s/he is at least 18 years of age. An employee may elect to make pre-tax contributions to the plan by completing a compensation reduction agreement with the BVRC. The maximum dollar amount s/he may contribute to the plan is $15,500.
An employee may be eligible for the Matching Plan following his/her first anniversary of employment with the BVRC, provided s/he is at least 18 years of age at that time. The BVRC will match each dollar the employee contributes to the 457(b) Plan up to a maximum percentage of his/her pay determined as follows:

An employee is always 100% vested in his/her own contributions to the 457(b) Plan. This means s/he does not forfeit his/her contributions if s/he terminates employment with the BVRC. On the other hand, an employee may forfeit his/her matching contributions under the Matching Plan if s/he terminates employment before becoming fully vested. The Matching Plan’s vesting schedule is as follows:

SHORT-TERM DISABILITY
Short-term Disability benefits are provided by the BVRC for personal sickness or injury for regular employees working 30 hours per week or more. The amount and duration of Short-term Disability pay increases with an employee’s length of service. Appropriate medical evidence of disability must be provided. LONG-TERM DISABILITY
Long-term Disability benefits commence after 90 continuous days of disability. Appropriate medical evidence of disability must be provided. Detailed information is included in the Summary Plan Description in the Employee Benefits Section.
VACATION
The schedule below indicates earned vacation days for regular employees and reflects increases that begin with the anniversary date of an employee’s fifth (5th) or tenth (10th) year of service.

Vacation time accrues from the first day of employment and will be based on continuous service to the BVRC. New employees may request vacation after six (6) months.
SICK LEAVE
An employee accrues sick time from the first day of employment and it is based on continuous service to the BVRC. A regular, full-time employee will be granted 3.08 hours of sick leave for
each two weeks of continued service.
