Manhattan is located in the northeastern part of the state of Kansas, at the junction of the Kansas River and Big Blue River. It is the county seat of Riley County and the city extends into Pottawatomie County. Manhattan has a population of 55,000, with an additional 25,000 university students, and is the central hub of a regional population of about 200,000. Manhattan was incorporated in 1854.
